Pur Water Filters Micron Ratings Discussed

January 31st, 2008 | by admin |

Make sure you know the micron ratings of any  pur water filters  that you use! A micron is a unit of measurement set at one millionth of a millimeter. A micron rating is used to describe how impermeable a filter is to pathogens. Micron ratings of 1 will prevent most bacteria from infiltrating a home water supply from the water mains. However, to prevent viruses from passing through a filter, a micron rating of 0.01 is needed- this goes to show how astonishingly small viruses are. The caveat is that lower micron ratings tend to waste a great deal more water though they may be safer.
