Edible Oil and Pumpkin Seeds

December 22nd, 2007 | by admin |

The vast majority of edible oils that we use today come from plants source, and almost always, pumpkin seeds of certain plants called ‘oilseeds’. The most commonly used seeds are that of soybeans, palms, rapeseed, sunflower seeds, peanut, cottonseed, palm kernel, and olive. Quite surprisingly, many of these edible oils were developed as fuel sources for machines, not as food. The first diesel engine was for example, designed to run on peanut oil. Oilseeds are quite versatile and can even be used to make plastics that do not make use of petrochemicals.
